TIPS FOR USING MINERAL MAKE-UP

Lyonsleaf are proud to stock Barefaced Beauty Mineral Make-up. We believe it is perfectly matched to our natural skincare products and offers a revolutionary 100% natural clean beauty system which means you never have to put an artificial chemical on your face ever again. Using natural mineral powder make-up might be a bit different to what you've been used to. We've been experimenting a lot, so we've put together some tips for you to help you create your perfect natural make-up look. We are really excited by the results we have achieved.

BEAUTY BALM AS A PRIMER

Firstly, we recommend using a tiny amount of Beauty Balm as a primer before applying mineral make up - but not too much! You want to lubricate the skin without making it feel oily. Remove excess Beauty Balm with a warm damp flannel if your skin feels greasy, and/or wait a few minutes before applying make up.

FOR A SHEER, DEWY LOOK

Once you have applied Beauty Balm as a primer, you have the option of just using Mineral Finishing Powder on top for a naked, dewy look. This is nice in summer, when foundation feels too heavy or if you just want a very sheer, very natural make-up look. The finishing powder will even skin tone and give you the colour you desire, without looking like make up at all. The finishing powder is designed to absorb extra oil but is not as  opaque as the foundation, so this option is like wearing a lightweight tinted moisturiser.

MIXING YOUR OWN LIQUID FOUNDATION

You can use Beauty Balm, or any of our Calendula products (if you need an anti-inflammatory effect) to mix with the Mineral Foundation Powder and create your own 100% natural liquid foundation in the palm of your hand.

It takes some practice to get the consistency right and you will probably find you need to use less that you first think, The powder conceals really well and you only want a very fine covering. Use too much and the result will be cakey, get it right and you can achieve a very natural healthy glow. It doesn't take long to get the hang of it.

When mixing, you are aiming for a very dry consistency, it shouldn't feel oily at all. Apply by dabbing over your Beauty Balm primer to achieve a very natural make-up look that stays put all day.

IF YOU FIND IT TOO OILY - MIX WITH WATER

If you find the texture too oily when mixing mineral foundation with Lyonsleaf Balms, you can always mix it with water. We would still advise using the Beauty Balm as primer to help lubricate the application of the make-up.

APPLYING FOUNDATION POWDER OVER BALMS

You can apply the mineral foundation powder over any of your calendula products or beauty balms with a kabuki brush or powder brush. We find this give a more mattified look.

MIXING POWDERS TO ADJUST COLOUR

It's really important to get the correct colour for your skin-tone. There are 20 shades of mineral foundation to choose from and we've described them and provided a colour chart. We recommend buying at least one sample pot before investing in a full sized product pot. Maybe even buy more than one to compare, you can use the samples that are too light or dark to high light cheekbones or adjust colour for different seasons, so it's unlikely you will waste the samples.

As we get into the summer months our skin colour changes, and the foundation you bought in spring might not quite match any more. As well as mixing different shades of foundation, you can also use bronzer, blush or shimmer to your mix to keep up with your tan, give yourself a bit more of a healthy glow or add a bit of shimmer for a party look.

BUY A SHADE DARKER TO MIX WITH THE ZINC AND CALENDULA CREAM

If you want to use the Zinc and Calendula to mix your foundation, we advise buying a darker shade because the whiteness of the zinc will lighten it. Of course you can mix different shades or add bronzer or shimmer to get the perfect natural make-up look for any season or occassion.

COLOUR CORRECTOR

To correct dark circles or redness, use colour corrector before applying foundation. This can be brushed on to the skin using a concealer brush, or mixed as a liquid in the same way we described mixing the foundation above.

FINISHING POWDER

If you suffer with oily skin, use the finishing powder to mitigate oily shine. You may find switching to oil cleansing with Lyonsleaf Beauty Balm rebalances oily skin and reduces issues with oily shine.

EYE SHADOW

Our Mineral Eye shadows can be applied as dry powder and blended using eye shadow brushes. Using the eyeliner brush means you can get a fine line. We like to wet the brush first or even use a very dry mixture of the eye shadow and a tiny amount of any of our balms or creams for a really controllable fine line.

KEEP YOUR POWDER DRY

If using a damp brush or water, or if you are mixing with Lyonsleaf skincare products, always mix on another surface, pot or your hand. Don't let the unused powder get contaminated with any liquid, cream or balm.
