Spot and Blemish Treatment
You can use Zinc and Calendula Cream as a spot or blemish treatment. Zinc oxide absorbs oil, so it works best on an individual spot that has come to a head.
How to Use It
Apply it overnight, and use it more generously than you would for everyday application. Since nobody's looking at your skin while you sleep, there's no need to blend it in thin. Dab a pinhead-to-pea-sized dot (depending on the size of the blemish) directly onto the spot and leave it on overnight.
The zinc oxide's oil-absorbing properties help soak up excess oil and any surface fluid at the spot, and together with calendula it helps calm the look of redness, so the spot looks smaller and calmer by morning.
If Your Skin Is Dry or Sensitive
Zinc oxide is drying, so keep it on the spot itself and out of the surrounding skin. If your skin is dry or sensitive, moisturise the surrounding area as usual with Beauty Balm or Calendula and Marshmallow Balm, or use the sandwich technique in Using Zinc and Calendula Cream with Dry Skin. If the skin around the spot starts to feel tight, stop and go back to moisturising.
A Note on Broken Skin
No Lyonsleaf products contain broad spectrum antimicrobial preservatives. Although both calendula and zinc oxide have antimicrobial properties, if there is a danger of infection, such as a spot that has been picked open, a deep open wound, open skin on infants under 3 years, or on a person with a compromised immune system, unpreserved products should not be applied.
If Spots Keep Coming Back
An occasional spot is one thing, but if they're a regular visitor, a simple routine makes a difference. See our Oily, Combination & Blemish-Prone Skin routine and our Natural Acne Treatment page.
