Glyphosate, Toxic Overload & Why We Must Question What’s Declared ‘Safe’
Vicky LyonsGlyphosate Weed Killer and the Growing Health Concerns
The Soil Association, Riverford Organic and The Wildlife Trusts have united in calling for an end to the use of glyphosate weed killer on crops shortly before harvest — a practice used on almost all large-scale wheat farms to dry crops for easier, faster harvesting.
The Soil Association says:
“A major 2025 study by scientists from Europe and the US, working as part of the Global Glyphosate Study, found that low doses of glyphosate caused several types of cancer in rats. The doses, administered in drinking water, were equivalent to levels currently considered ‘safe’ for humans by regulators.”
While it’s alarming that glyphosate is used at all in agriculture, parks, playgrounds and residential gardens, the glaringly obvious concern highlighted by the campaign is that spraying the actual crop itself so close to harvest leaves little time for these toxic chemicals to break down before entering the food chain.
Frankly, it beggars belief.
Glyphosate Residue in Food and the Problem with Industrial Agriculture
This is a perfect example of how industrial food systems prioritise efficiency and profit over human health, soil quality and the environment.
It clearly demonstrates that just because a product is sold by a trusted brand in a supermarket, regulated by government bodies and declared safe, we cannot automatically presume that it is safe.
This petition is about more than glyphosate alone, it’s about raising awareness and questioning why harmful substances are still considered acceptable and legally permitted throughout our food system.
Once you start questioning food safety regulations and the ingredients in your food, it becomes impossible to ignore the ingredients used in cosmetics, skincare products, personal care products and pharmaceuticals too.
Toxic Overload: Harmful Chemicals in Everyday Products
The sad truth is that humanity is experiencing toxic overload.
From ultra-processed foods packed with emulsifiers, artificial additives and agricultural chemicals, to harsh cleaning products and conventional skincare loaded with preservatives, synthetic fragrance, thickeners and stabilisers, we are surrounded by ingredients many people would never knowingly choose.
Yet because these substances are regulated and deemed safe, most people never think to read the label.
Many harmful skincare ingredients are known to disrupt the skin barrier and microbiome, interfere with hormones and, in some cases, are even linked to cancer concerns. Often these ingredients are included because they extend shelf life, simplify mass production or increase profits.
It’s hard to understand why so many questionable ingredients are still legally permitted in products we use every day.
Natural Skincare Without Harmful Ingredients
At Lyonsleaf we formulate using minimal, carefully selected natural ingredients.
Our ingredients are not chosen based on what is merely legally allowed, but on what is genuinely beneficial for your skin and completely harmless.
Our skincare products are entirely free from water and therefore free from anti-microbial preservatives and emulsifiers. We also reject synthetic fragrance, petrochemicals and any ingredient that offers no real benefit to your skin or could be detrimental in any way.
This is why we believe in truly natural skincare, preservative-free skincare and products that work in harmony with the skin barrier and microbiome, not against them.
