Collection: Baby Eczema

Baby eczema is very common. It often first shows up as dry, red patches on the cheeks, in skin creases or on the scalp. Many children grow out of it, and in the meantime gentle, simple skincare can make a real difference to keeping their skin comfortable. Our 100% natural products are incredibly gentle, but they are cosmetics, made to keep delicate skin in good condition rather than to treat eczema. If your baby has eczema it's important you talk to your GP or health visitor.

Gentle Care for Eczema-Prone Baby Skin

  • Keep bath time short and lukewarm. Skip soap and bubble bath, which can strip delicate skin. Zinc and Calendula Cream is very water-repellent, so a thin layer before the bath helps protect fragile patches.
  • Moisturise often. Pure Baby Balm has just three ingredients and no fragrance. Apply it to slightly damp skin after the bath to lock in moisture. Suitable from 4 weeks.
  • Soothe reactive patches. Calendula and Marshmallow Balm is deeply hydrating for very dry, rough patches. Zinc and Calendula Cream is cooling and calming for hot, red areas. It's also our nappy cream, which has won Gold at the Green Parent Natural Beauty Awards, Nappy Cream category, four times since 2020. If skin is dry, apply a balm first and layer the zinc cream over it, as explained on our zinc page.
  • Watch for irritants. Soft cotton clothing, an unfragranced washing powder, no fabric conditioner and no wool next to the skin all help. See our Skin Irritants. page for more.
  • Go carefully with food. Food can be a trigger for some babies, but don't cut out major foods without professional guidance. Our Natural Eczema Treatment guide explains more.

Baby Eczema - Where to Start

Our Baby Skin Care and Eczema Sample Set is completely fragrance-free and lets you find out what suits your baby before buying full-size pots. Sample orders ship as a large letter, so postage is inexpensive. For older children and adults, see our creams for eczema-prone skin.

Important for Babies and Under-3s

A newborn's skin barrier is still forming in the first few weeks, so we recommend waiting until your baby is at least 4 weeks old before using any of our products. Before then, skincare is best kept for a medical need, such as nappy rash, on the advice of your midwife, health visitor or GP.

Our products are water-free and unpreserved. That's what makes them so gentle, but it also means they shouldn't be used on broken skin in children under 3. Use clean fingers or a spatula, and patch test first. If skin is weeping, crusting yellow or the eczema is spreading, or your baby seems unwell, see your GP promptly, as eczema can become infected. See Using Unpreserved Skincare on Broken Skin for more.
