Collection: Pure Calendula Cream

Pure calendula cream is what sets us apart. There are hundreds of calendula creams and ointments on sale, but very few are pure. Ours contain nothing artificial: just plant oils, butters, waxes and herbs.

What makes a calendula cream pure?

Most calendula creams contain water. Water lets bugs grow, so the cream needs a preservative, and an emulsifier to hold the oil and water together. Both can irritate sensitive skin, and emulsifiers can weaken the skin barrier.

Our calendula creams contain no water, so they need neither. They're free from:

  • Water and preservatives
  • Emulsifiers
  • Artificial fragrance and colourants
  • All artificial chemicals

Pure doesn't mean 100% calendula. Like a traditional calendula ointment, our calendula is infused into plant oils, which carry its goodness into your skin. You can see it in the oil: ours is deep orange from the flowers' natural pigments, while many commercial calendula oils look like plain sunflower oil.

How to check a calendula cream is pure

Look at the ingredient list. Water (or aqua) near the top means the cream will also contain a preservative and an emulsifier. Ours start with plant oils or shea butter, and every ingredient is something you'd recognise.

Choosing your pure calendula cream

We make three pure calendula skincare products: an unfragranced balm for very dry skin, an unfragranced zinc barrier cream, and a whipped, fragranced cream. See all our calendula creams for help choosing, or try the Calendula Skin Rescue Sample Set.

Because there's no water, they're undiluted, so a little goes a long way. Calendula is a member of the daisy family, so avoid it if you're allergic to daisies or related plants. Unpreserved products need care on broken skin: see using unpreserved skincare on broken skin.
